Together Everyone Achieves More

The mission of the In-Home Energy Check-Up & Counseling program is to increase the energy efficiency of a client’s home, by providing them with Energy Education and measures to help them start saving energy immediately. A major way to accomplish this mission, in addition to the above-mentioned, is fostering relationships with other organizations within the state of Delaware that has available resources to address concerns and issues that may hamper a client’s path to energy efficiency. An HEC2 appointment bridges the gap between the client and those resources they may not even know existed. Below is an example of such, especially when various organizations came together to address energy efficiency and health/safety issues a client may have.

Ms. Anna Logan contacted Sussex Habitat for Humanity regarding the refrigerator replacement and skirting program, both of which are managed through the Energize Delaware Empowerment Grant funded by the Exelon Merger for Delmarva Power Customers. She was placed in contact with Barbara Carter, their Neighborhood Revitalization Coordinator. Barbara was not only able to assist Ms. Logan with those programs, but she also informed her about the Home Energy and Checkup (HEC2) program, which also opened the door to other resources in Delaware. Ms. Logan learned about her energy behavior through energy education and had energy efficient measures (LED light bulbs, faucet aerators, and LED night lights) directly installed, which helped her on her way to energy efficiency. During her HEC2 appointment, Ms. Logan learned why it was important to replace her older inefficient refrigerator with a new energy star rated one, and why it was important to have the new insulated skirting installed around her home. Sussex Habitat for Humanity went above and beyond by renovating her bathroom to provide ease of access, since Ms. Logan suffers mobility issues. The age/inefficiency of her heating system was also noted during her HEC2 appointment, where she was given an application to the Heating Repair and/or Replacement (HEAT-ON) program, implemented by HELP Initiative, Inc. of Delaware. Ms. Logan contacted HELP, Inc. who sent out a qualified technician to diagnose her heating unit. Through the HEAT-ON program, Ms. Logan received a new energy-efficient heating system.

Through the coordinated efforts of all partners involved, Ms. Logan benefited from the multiple resources brought to bear on her home. All in the spirit of promoting energy efficiency and health/safety. A picture tells a thousand words, and the pictures below will show exactly that.
