Energize Delaware’s HEC2 Program is now offering FREE Home Energy Check-Ups to income-qualified Delaware residents (see below). A Home Energy Check-Up is a fast, easy way to increase the energy efficiency of your home and help you start saving immediately. When you schedule a Check-Up, one of our energy-efficiency professionals will come to your home and assess the condition of its insulation, heating and air-cooling system, lighting, appliances and more to identify simple ways to help you save energy and money.

  1. Interview: The visit will begin with some basic questions, review of the client’s energy bill(s) and eligibility. The following documents are required to check for eligibility:
  • Photo ID for the applicant
  • At least one (1) or more utility bills
  • Proof of income (pay stub or W-2) or proof of benefit (Social Security, SSI, TANF, GA, WIC and/or food stamps award letter)

Automatic Qualifier

OR

Proof of Income

Client must provide a recent award letter from one (1) of the following:

·         Food stamps

·         WIC

·         LIHEAP

·         TANF/GA

·         Medicaid

 

Client must provide a recent copy of each applicable document:

·         Two (2) pay stubs

·         W-2s

·         Previous year’s tax return

·         SSI/SS award letter

·         Unemployment

  1. Walk-through: A Check-Up professional will perform a walk-through of your home to show you how you can reduce the amount of energy you use and save money. Your Check-Up professional will assess the condition of the following items:
  • Insulation levels
  • Air leakage
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Windows and doors
  • Lighting and appliances
  • Water-heating equipment
  1. Energy counseling: The Check-Up professional will discuss their findings and give information about additional resources available for energy-related repairs, assistance and/or conservation. After the Check-Up, you will receive a report summarizing important findings, recommended improvements and opportunities to reduce your energy use and costs while improving the comfort of your home.
  2. Installation of energy-saving measures: With your permission, the Check-Up professional may provide and install the following energy-saving measures in your home at no additional cost:
  • LED light bulbs
  • Faucet aerators
  • Efficient-flow fixed showerheads
  • Water-heater pipe insulation (installed on hot and cold pipes for 6 feet from water heater)
